It feels like it’s been a while since I’ve done a Fresh Music Roundup, or a post in general for that matter. But have no fear because I’m back with another edition. Make note of these new tracks that are sure to be monster hits.
Alessia Cara – Here
I can actually remember the first time hearing this song. I was browsing through a H&M store and I was mesmerised by the throwback instrumental accompanied by Alessia’s striking, modern voice. It’s a fantastic juxtaposition and it works. The song is an instant classic in my books. Also, the lyrics perfectly illustrate what it feels like to be an introvert at a house party full of extroverts.
Donnie Trumpet & The Social Experiment (ft. Chance the Rapper, Busta Rhymes B.oB) – Slip Slide
The whole Surf album is amazing, but this is one of my favourite tracks; it’s so jolly and uplifting. Also, the trumpet and drums make you feel like you’re sitting underneath the bleachers at a high school game watching the musicians and cheerleaders performing.
Drake – Hotline Bling
It’s not hugely different to anything Drake has previously released, but it still has a bouncy vibe to it and he is using the same flow from throughout his ‘If You’re Reading This…’ album/mixtape. It makes for a nice, breezy track.
JoJo – Save My Soul
JoJo is back with a “tringle” – three new songs all going on sale at the same time. This track in my opinion is the best suited to radio because it sounds like Pop right now; it’s reminiscent of the Max Martin sound on par with tracks including ‘Love Me Harder‘, ‘Good Thing‘, ‘Style‘, ‘Cheyenne‘ and ‘Do What U Want‘.
Nick Jonas – Levels
Get your stank face ready. Bopping is a necessity when listening to this track. The wobbling bass is so grimy, it’s unreal. Nick is really going for the white R&B badboy narrative, as utilized by Justin Timberlake before him.
